About the Mayor

Mayor Brian Powell was elected at large by the residents of Ammon in November 2025 and was sworn into office on January 8, 2026, to serve a four year term. As the City’s Chief Executive Officer, he presides over City Council meetings, works with the Council on policy and budgeting, and helps ensure that city ordinances, policies, and priorities are carried out effectively.


Mayor Powell’s leadership is grounded in integrity, thoughtful decision making, and service to the community. He is focused on transparent government, sound infrastructure planning, fiscal responsibility, and building a city organization that uses data, technology, and strong execution to serve residents well.

Roles of Mayor

Presides Over Council Meetings

The Mayor presides over City Council meetings and helps maintain order and the flow of business in accordance with Idaho law and council rules. The Mayor votes when the Council is equally divided.

Chief Executive Leadership

The Mayor serves as the City’s chief administrative official and provides executive leadership for city operations, officers, and affairs. The office is responsible for helping ensure city ordinances and applicable law are carried out and enforced.

Works With Council on Policy and Budget

The Mayor works with the City Council on policy direction, city priorities, and the annual budget process. While the Council acts legislatively, the Mayor helps lead implementation and administration of adopted policies.

Appointments and Recommendations

The Mayor makes appointments and provides recommendations as authorized by Idaho law and city code, including service on boards, commissions, and other city roles when applicable. These responsibilities are carried out subject to the processes required by law and Council action where needed.
